2011 Photo Album

So sorry I haven't posted my projects, but nothing was presentable. Here is an album I put together of 2011 photos this week. You can see it at www.beverlyjordan.shutterfly.com as well as on my Facebook. Enjoy! The photo on the front was taken by Julie at Little's Protraits on New Broad Street in Baldwin Park, Florida. They were taken on New Smyrna Beach. She did a fantastic job!

New Orleans Art Museum Gardens

Don't you just love this Blue Dog?! We are pictured at the New Orlean's Art Museum gardens. I sat the camera on a flat surface and set the timer. Not bad since we all fit into the shot! By the way, I write reviews of my travels and opinions on Trip Advisor, and you can see my review there. So far, I have left most on the great food we had. Hope everyone had a great summer and enjoyed maybe seeing sights and people you really wanted to. I know we did!

New Orleans French Quarter and Market

This Joan of Ark statue is at the entrance of the French Market in New Orleans.

The Central Grocery Store has the best Muffuletta in town, but very little seating so be forewarned! At $14.50 for a whole one, it fed all five of us!!

Here is my portion. It was delicious with the olive salad spread on before layering it with all the meats and mozzarella cheese.

The kids at the counter eating...very tight but worth it for the yummy Muffuletta, and air conditioning!!

Cool car we noticed while walking through the French Quarter. It was painted for Sailor Jerry liquior, just parked on one of the side streets!

Finally, the kids take a break in the alcoves down one of the side streets. Real life! Well, hope you enjoyed my photos from our trip and I will post the layout another time.

New Orleans Trumpeter Shamarr Allen

Met and heard famous trumpeter, Shamarr Allen, whose concert was wonderful, of course! He played one note on his pocket trumpet for over 5mins!! How does he do that!? His rhythem and tones were infectious to the point people jumping up to dance, and join in! The band really rocked it, too!! His songs about personal stories like remembering his grandfather, Chester, brought me to tears, while the smooth jazz sounds touched all. He is not wanting to do just jazz and played from many genre. Loved all of it and of course got one of his CD's. I highly recommend listening to his newest songs on itunes. I enjoyed his New Orleans jazz deput album, and got "Meet me on Frenchmen Street". Enjoy!

Stampfest Orlando 2011, meeting Tweety Jill

Lee Ann and I headed out to the StampFest Orlando 2011 stamp convention. We had such fun and even met Tweety Jill where we made beautiful cards. Here are my two. The collage emphera materials, and stamps that she has created are just wonderful to play with and make into unique works of art. We both came away with over $100 worth of her products and highly recommend using her web site if you haven't bought any yourself. http://www.tweetyjill.com/

Taught at Creating Keepsakes Convention, Buffalo, NY 2011

For the Make and Take, I taught the technique of making the shabby chic roses you see here. Distressing is so easy with a Distress-It-All, made by of course, Zutter. See www.Binditall.com

Lee Ann showing the spot I stood in most of the show!!

Lee Ann Winters and I just got back from working for http://www.scrapbooksnstickers.com/ at the Creating Keepsakes Convention, in Buffalo, New York. We had a fun time but it was a lot of work!! The booth you see in the photos is actually bigger than that because Lee Ann was on the other side of the wall teaching another class, of Scraptique. I even ran the register while doing make and takes every day!! The ladies in Buffalo were so friendly and loved learning new things. Everyone was so nice!

Free 8x10 Collage!! (with instructions)

Free 8x10 Collage Print at local Walgreens. Although it may be to late to mail one, it isn't too late to get one at your local Walgreens before Sunday!! For all of those who have never ordered digital prints I have given instructions below. Otherwise, disregard them, and enjoy the freebie!
Instructions for ordering prints over the internet: First, your digital prints should be stored on your computer in a folder, under desktop. Start by going to http://www.walgreens.com/ and click on "Photo". From there you must make your own account with a password and email. Then go to your account, and start uploading photos from your own computer folder. If you hold down the "Ctrl" and "Alt" keys simultaneously (the ones on the left, bottom of your keyboard) you may upload more than one photo at a time. This is important to do, so not to take so much time. The Walgreen's system will continue uploading into their own folder under your password. Each time you upload, you have a choice to use a date or name for each folder, which is good management and organization. I have multiple accounts under different emails so that each family member can have their own photos. This can be very time consuming!! But worth it if they have their photos reprinted for FREE! I then send the reprints or collages in this case to my local store and pick everyone's up at the same time. My advise if you reprint as often as I do, is to get on Walgreen's emails for photos.

Note: Walgreens digital photos need "Editing" because they reprint dark. Go to the right hand column of each photo, click "Edit & organize", then click "fix & enhance", then under Fix, click "Flash fill" then click "strong". Sounds long but you will speed right through this. BEFORE exiting from each photo after cropping to your desired size, hit the "next" button on the top right of each photo. This way you will do all the photos at once and then go back to order. For the collages, this is necessary so that they are "fixed" prior to adding them to the collage itself.
Collage ordering is under the Create section (right column), "Gifts". Then click onto "Collage" (Center square), then Collage Print, (which is the top right square of choices). Choose your size, before adding photos. By the way, I use the 4x6 size to order wallets of 2 different photos which costs only 29 cents. Choose Orientation, then start dropping photos in. When the system arranges your photos the way you desire, add your title and you are done. Check the box saying you have checked your collage print, and it will be added to your cart. Add the coupon code, "FREECOLLAGE" into the appropriate box, and it is free. Add the zip code of the area to pick it up, and then chose which Walgreen's. Hit order and make sure you get all the way to the end of the order, to make sure it goes through.
Viola! I, of course, have done it many times, and so it is very fast. You will get used to it, and speed right through. Hope this has been useful and informative for all those new to this.
Enjoy,
Beverly

I won Scrapbox's Giant Cutting Board!

I recently entered a contest on Getting Cricky's blog hop for The Sewing Box Giveaway, through www.TheOriginalScrapbox.com and WON!!! I have won their GIANT Cutting Board that is self healing on one side and a work surface on the other. They have awesome products and I am so thrilled to be receiving this wonderful prize, especially because I am in need of this for my desk top!!! (Happy dance!!) As delighted as I am, I now am looking forward to the next part of this contest in which I am one out of 9 others in a final drawing for the Sewing Box, which is their newest craft space. If I win this, my poor sewing machine will be so happy, since it has been resigned to sit on the floor behind a chair, in the corner of my room! Poor, poor sewing machine! Needless to say I and my machine will just be so thrilled, and of course I will be doing my happy dance, all over again!
I hope you all have a Happy Easter, and spend time thanking God for all His wonderful blessings!

God Bless all of you and your families!

3D Flowers made from Mother's Bouquet Cricut Cartridge

Double page layout made from Daisy D's patterned paper.
Flower cut from Mother's Bouquet Cricut Cartridge, inked and dimensionalized.
Close up of flowers. Cut at different sizes, inked and then layered.
Other side of layout.

Here is my Double Page Layout of the photos from before. For this tutorial, you can use any flower cut from patterned paper. In this case, I used the Mother's Bouquet that is a seasonal cartridge from Cricut, using my Gypsy to get as many cut from one 6" by 12" paper, and my Expression. Saves a ton of cutting and time.

Tutorial: The large flower consists of 2 cuts each of these sizes: 2.5", 1 1/2", and 3 cut at 1", totaling 7 flowers in all. Inked the back and edges because I was using one sided paper. If you are using double sided, only ink the edges. Also try to use paper that is not too thin, but not too thick. This paper seemed to be perfect for the technique so I just inked the reverse side because of it showing the white side.

Next, using an embossing tool or the round end of a pen, and a mouse pad for it's softness, press into the center of each flower and rub in a circular motion. This immediately "warps" the paper into a scooped out shape. Next, fold each petal in half, and so dimensionalizing them separately. After completing this for all flower pieces, layer them as you desire, overlapping and folding the 3 smallest in the center. To do this, fold two halves of two flowers back to back or 1/2 of each glued together, in other words. Smooch them, then layer into the center of the flower. Use even smaller cut flowers together to layer onto bling, as in my layout. I painted chipboard letters and frame with its center, and the metal word, "memories" with Making Memories, blue raspberry paint to add dimension. Added more bling and more smaller 1" flowers. I hope you enjoyed this, as much as I have.

Calle Ocho in Little Havana, Miami, Florida

Mural painted on building along 8th Street, by Archie Nica

Guayaba y gueso con cafe' con leche
Media Noche

Cigars being rolled in a local establishment.

I hope you enjoy seeing some real spanish culture from Little Havana in Miami, Florida.

We enjoy the colors and fantastic culture they have. This is my daughter's third year taking Spanish and I wanted her to really understand more about the customs so we went to 8th Street, Miami. Wish I could have another Media Noche and Cafe' con leche, right now, don't you?

Make sure to join my blog and I will post the layout I made from this trip, later.
